Maroon 5 - Misery

Opening with the typical Maroon 5 'sound,' which for once isn't a bad thing, but in fact gives the song a sense of retro, its opening sets the song up to be a promising release from the band.

The initial verse sets up the tone of the song with a simple rhyming pattern and beat, but despite this, the group  manage to insert some intriguing lyrics by introducing the idea of the 'tortured soul,' a good twist which ensures that this track doesn't fall into the trap of over simplicity.

After a catchy bridge, the chorus opens and it may be easy to confuse 'Misery' with their previous hit 'This Love' at this point, however it is likely to be just as well received. This track is immediately set up to be a catchy little number, with Maroon 5 providing what they do best, jaunty little pop numbers.

This track should be on the iPods of millions of angst-y teens due to its 'Misery' themed lyrics teamed with its sugar pop feel sound. A good return to form for Maroon 5, although reasonably safe.

7/10 - Spice...just...
