Labrinth - Let The Sun Shine

After co-writing and featuring on Tinie Tempah's smash hits 'Pass Out' and 'Frisky,' gaining a #1 and #2 chart position respectively, Labrinth is due to release his very own solo single 'Let The Sun Shine,' after becoming the first non-talent show act to sign to Simon Cowell's Syco label in 6 years. So, let's take a look at what the high-waisted one saw as the future of Labrinth...

In essence the track is a chilled out party tune, although think more of "cool group of american friends at a pool party" as opposed to a full on club stormer. Hosting a trance-like backing as the song opens, Labrinth's cool vocals really relaxes the tone of this feel good song as the performer encourages everyone to be more carefree and "...let the sun shine..."

The main issue with the track is it's chorus, the verses tend to build up the beat as if the chorus is about to leap right out at you, and every time it is a disappointment. After an infusion of extra synths and hand clapping beats, the chorus actually drops in terms of speed and excitement which just leaves the listener feeling unsatisfied.

However, this song is definitely a grower, and is a reasonably good effort for Labrinth's first solo project. Many will have been expecting more from him, especially after the more upbeat Tempah tracks he's previously been associated with, although this song may have been a conscious decision to move away from that sound to establish him as his own artist. I'm interested to see what's next for Labrinth and I'm sure that this song will keep your mind lingering on summer way into September.

7/10 - Spicy
