Music Video Première - Rihanna ft. Drake - What's My Name?

Here's the video for Rihanna's next single, 'What's My Name' featuring Drake. It's not really the most inspired video we've ever seen, we much prefer the one which accompanies 'Only Girl (In The World)' but hey, she looks hot and she looks like she's having fun dancing down the street and in the party scene at the end so good for her ;)

Uk Midweek Charts Roundup - Thursday 4th November

So chart buffs, we’re still looking at a Rihanna, Cheryl, Alexis, Bruno and Katy top five this week and in that order, and that is not likely to change too much before we hit Sunday’s charts.

Further down the chart we see Shakespears Sister still selling well at #9, whilst Duck Sauce’s ‘Barbra Streisand’ has risen back up to the #10 spot, although they’re currently just 182 sales ahead of The Saturdays, who’ve sold a solid 19,295 copies of their Flo Rida collaboration ‘Higher.’

will.i.am and Nicki Minaj rest at #12, 1,094 copies of their single ‘Check It Out’ behind The Saturdays, whilst B.o.B. and Rivers Cuomo come in at #16.

Nadine is still struggling further down the chart, currently at #24, one place above Roll Deep and Alesha Dixon at #25.

Cheryl Cole is still ahead on the album chart, shifting over 70,000 copies of her sophomore ‘Messy Little Raindrops,’ with Bon Jovi’s greatest hits LP in second place with 56,000 sales. The top five is completed with Rumer, Kings Of Leon and Jamiroquai.

Uk Midweek Charts Roundup - Wednesday 3rd November

So, whilst Rihanna’s still top dog at the #1 spot, it looks as though a certain Miss Cole wasn’t too happy with being shoved down to #3 and as such has switched places with Alexis Jordan for the #2 place.

Alexis is still followed by Bruno Mars and Katy Perry to round off the top five, with Cee-Lo, Posner and Nelly following up.

Elsewhere in the chart we see a swarm of new entries in the top thirty, with Tinchy Styder and Taio Cruz at #21, Roll Deep and Alesha Dixon at #25 and Nadine Coyle scrabbling up the chart from #35 to #26 so we may just see a top twenty placing for her yet...

Over on the albums chart, it’s looking pretty clear that Cheryl will be nabbing the #1 spot, followed by Bon Jovi, Rumer, Kings Of Leon and Jamiroquai. Bad news for Joe McElderry though, who’s album ‘Wide Awake’ slips down to #19.

Uk Midweek Charts Roundup - Tuesday 2nd Oct

Looks like our predictions were right people, after her crazy performance on Sunday night’s X Factor Results Show, Rihanna has swept to the top of the midweeks with her single ‘Only Girl (In The World)!’

Cheryl Cole isn’t even following her, as newcomer Alexis Jordan settles in at #2 with her debut ‘Happiness,’ which we love her at The Ice, Spice and Vice Files. This means that Queen Cole (Well...she more or less is anyway) takes the #3 spot at the moment. But don’t fear Cheryl, you’re looking at a #1 album instead so it’s all good.

Completing the top five at the moment are Bruno Mars and Katy Perry who’s most likely still in demand due to her single ‘Firework’ appearing so close to the Firework Night on 5^th November.

Elsewhere we see Shakespears Sister return to the top ten with their 1992 #1 hit ‘Stay,’ after Cher Lloyd’s performance of the track on The X Factor on Saturday, whilst The Saturday’s collaboration with Flo Rida, ‘Higher,’ comes in at #10, but with only 400 more sales than will.i.am and Nicki Minaj who, for now, stick to the #11 spot.

Unfortunately for Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle, her debut solo single ‘Insatiable’ has stalled at #35 so far this week although we may see sales pick up as the physicals are released...let’s hope so for her sake...

Who's On Top? - Rihanna Covers UK Marie Claire

Rihanna has covered the UK's 'Marie Claire' to aide the promotion of her latest single 'Only Girl (In The World). We're loving this stripped back and altogether more feminine image she's now sporting and we can't wait for her 'Loud' LP.

Uk Midweek Charts Roundup - Thursday 28th Oct

Cheryl Cole is still sitting (insanely) pretty in the #1 position, with sales of almost 110,000 copies of the addictive ‘Promise This,’ which is now comfortably outstripping Rihanna’s ‘Only Girl In The World,’ with just over 82,000 sales. We have a feeling she may be able to topple Chezza next week though after her performance slot on The X Factor.

Bruno, Cee-Lo and Katy are rounding off the rest of the top 5 in that order, whilst at the lower end of the top ten we see Nelly, The Wanted and Michael Bublé.

Elsewhere, we see Peter Andre stalling at #17, whilst Ironik scrapes into the #40.

Uk Midweek Charts Roundup - Tuesday 26th Oct

After successfully reclaiming his #1 spot this week, it looks as though Bruno Mars’ victory will be short lived, that’s if Cheryl Cole has anything to do with it.

The lead single, ‘Promise This,’ from her sophomore album ‘Messy Little Raindrops,’ has currently shifted close to 70,000 copies and is on track to clinch the top spot this week, fending of red headed Rihanna, who with around 50,000 sales is looking at the #2 position.

Bruno Mars finds himself back at #3, just ahead of Cee-Lo Green at #4 and Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’ which comes in at #5.

Nelly’s latest offering, ‘Just A Dream’ finds itself at 8, with Michael Bublé at 10 following his X Factor slot on Sunday. The Wanted have had to deal with a dramatic tumble down from #2 to #9 this week, whilst Diana Vickers and Joe McElderry are now neighbours at the #22 and #23 spots respectively, although luckily for Joe it looks as if his album will chart highly at #2 this week.

Who's On Top? - Best Cover - 6th Oct - 20th Oct

That's right folks, it's been another fortnight which means it's time for us to select our favourite celebrity magazine covers from the past 14 days!

In 3rd place we've chosen Mary J. Blige's feature on Ebony magazine to help celebrate its 65th birthday celebrations. We love it because of its retro feel and the fact she's the spitting image of Diana Ross! Crazy!

In 2nd place is Rihanna's cover of Billboard magazine. We love the way she manages to ditch all dark connotations that could have followed her from her 'Rated R' era and looks stunning in sepia tones.

Finally...in 1st place...is Soulja Boy on the cover of the first digital issue of 'Vibe' magazine. We feel it encompasses his character completely, and is quirky and original. Move over Nicki Minaj - we have a new Best Cover :)

Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World)

Now as we mentioned yesterday, two of the singles we would have reviewed for next week's new releases we have already done when they leaked. Denmark Chart Top Ten - 15/10/10

Burhan G continues his reign at the top of the charts, with some help from Nik & Jay, for the second week running, stopping Cee-Lo Green from clinching yet another #1 with 'Fuck You.' He has, however managed to move up one space to #2, whilst Clara Sofie & Rune RK move up 2 spaces to complete the top 3.

Rihanna continues to have 2 features in the top 10, although her 'Love The Way You Lie' collaboration with Eminem has tumbled 4 places since last week, this week appearing at #6, one place above her solo single 'Only Girl (In The World' at #7.

Towards the lower end of the chart we see 2 new entries, as Mohombi and Bruno Mars move up from the #11 and #17 positions respectively to occupy this week's #8 and #9 posts, with 'Bumpy Ride' and the international smash hit, 'Just The Way You Are.'

Music Video Première - Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World)

Rihanna's latest video has surfaced and here it is! Looking radient, the superstar shows off a softer image than in the videos from her previous LP and it's a great change. She looks happy and effortlessly reinvents herself for this next stage of her career. We love the colours, especially in the fireworks section and we feel that the video is interesting, not quite being the more club based visuals that the song so easily lends itself too. Top marks Ri-Ri.

Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World)

Rihanna's back after the global smash success of her darker Rated R album and she's keen to show off a new sound, but does 'Only Girl' take her in the right direction?
In one word - a resounding, exuberant, 1000% YES...that may be more than one word, but it's the reaction that this tune should be evoking!


After lulling the listener into a false sense of security with some mellow yet catchy "la la la la's" layered with a subtle blend of club beats, (Think chilled Ibiza) Rihanna begins to step up the energy notch by notch.


She moves into the first verse with slick and sexy seductiveness, displaying a cheeky laugh and a couple of "ahhh's." Hearing Rihanna returning to her previous, more flirtatious sound after the drama of her last "Hard" image, is a breath of fresh air. Rihanna's vocals ripple over an ever growing beat of which Stargate continues to intensify as the song goes on. It's true to say that this is Stargate at their finest, building once more on the success of their previous productions such as Beyoncé's 'Irreplaceable' and Rihanna's 'Rude Boy.'


Rihanna then explodes into the chorus, with Stargate pumping it full of high powered synths. At this point, Rihanna is reminiscent of a high maintenance but confident girlfriend, with lines such as "Want you to make me feel like I'm the only girl in the world." As the chorus enters the second half, the anticipated Stargate magic club beat prounds into action, setting the track up to be yet another international club smash.


The song follows the same pattern of verse and chorus with similar effect before arriving at the highly sexualised bridge, most likely ensure Ri a place in countless "sexiest female" polls, before storming back through the chorus.


So how does Rihanna's latest work rate? Her vocals show huge versatility, from sultry verses to dominating choruses. Furthermore this is a definite happier step away from the deeper Rated R project. Rihanna shows that she can take control in a teasing, flirtatious manner, belting sassy lines like "I'm the only one who understands how to make you feel like a man" whilst managing to express her sexual desires through extremely passionate imagery. It would also appear that 'Only Girl' can quite easily be seen to take influence from  David Guetta (who also contributed to her upcoming 'Loud' album) produced material, in particular 'Commander' by Kelly Rowland. The chorus to 'Only Girl' carries similar tones and even features a reference to the former, (Like I'm the only one that's in command). However, unlike Kelly Rowland, it feels as though Rihanna is controlling the beat and not the other way around.


I'm sure this is set to blow up in a huge way and will ensure that Rihanna can leave Rated R comfortably behind whilst her latest vocals will be filling clubs across the globe with its infectious tone.
