UK Charts Top Ten - 3rd Oct 2010

Tinie Tempah has knocked Bruno Mars off the top spot after only one week at #1, making Tempah’s ‘Written In The Stars’ his second UK #1. Mars falls to the #2 spot with ‘Just The Way You Are’ which means that Simon Cowell’s newest protégée is forced into the #3 position with his debut ‘Let The Sun Shine.’

Adele has rocketed into the top of the charts with her single ‘Make You Feel My Love’ due to its feature on The X Factor last week, with Taio Cruz falling from his last week’s #2 position to round off the top 5.

Enriqué Iglesias and Nicole Scherzinger duet ‘Heartbeat’ has cracked the top ten, entering at #8 whilst it’s another unfortunate week for Burkey who slips down to #10.

Alexis Jordan - Happiness

First off this week we're introducing newcomer Alexis Jordan who releases her first single 'Happiness' next week, a track full of man made trance sounds with a high tech odd-ish video. Can she make any impact though?


The track has a hypnotising rhythm which is extremely easy to listen to, smooth, and maintained constantly throughout which could have damaged the overall song, making it a little dull. However in this case the perpetual  nature of it adds to the vibe of the single, re-enforcing the mellow tones.


The hook is also very melodic and has a Ciara-like quality to it which is highly endearing, whilst keeping its own sound. This is no Ciara cover by any means, although obvious comparisons can and will be made between the pair. The chorus is likeable and innocent, with Jordan skipping through lines such as 'through strength I found love..." etc


As the song progresses, Alexis' voice strengthens and she finds power in her lungs which is quite surprising given the overall feel of the song and the kind of artist many will assume her to be. Belting out some quality notes, the young popstar might actually develop into a little powerhouse with further material.


The track slips into your mind like melting butter and is a pleasant little R'n'B number that is made for finger and foot tapping, and forgiving the strange video, we wish Alexis Jordan well and hope this track finds some success as we get the feeling she could be an extremely versatile performer.

Music Video Première - Nadine Coyle - Insatiable

A slightly unimaginative offering from the recently 'gone solo' Girls Aloud star, maybe she's trying to emphasise the fact that by appearing on her own...in an empty studio...with just the company of a microphone stand...She still looks stunning regardless and the song is great, let's hope she makes a good ranking in the charts.

Swedish House Mafia Vs Tinie Tempah - Miami 2 Ibiza

 

What do you get if you cross the Swedish House Mafia with a certain Mr T. Tempah? The answer...an electro driven club smash by the sounds of things...


The lyrics and beat to 'Miami 2 Ibiza' will literally drill into your brain and you'll find youself singing along to this little treat in no time at all. The constant pounding rhythm is enough to get even the squarest of squares hooked, especially once you've heard it out in a club after a few drinks.


In essence, this could be classed as a perfect club song, just listening to a mere snippet of this brilliance will have images of lights flashing, music thumping, drink downing and move busting joy exploding in front of your eyes. The tempo picks up for the chorus and smashes into an all out anthem sound, with synths and claps galore.


Entering into the second verse, the vocals drop down into base level which the crowds will go wild for, and gives the track a different vibe from most other recent club bangers. As the chorus continues the vocals gradually return to normal. Tempah's vocals don't sound as unique as we've become accustomed to although lyrically the track is just as good.


It would seem that anyone who could resist this track must be dead inside, or old, as this is a proper anthem that'll be stomping through clubs up and down the country for the foreseeable future. From Tinie Tempah, we now expect nothing less and he could soon be adding another #1 to his collection.

Music Video Première - Diana Vickers - My Wicked Heart

The new video for Diana Vickers' 'My Wicked Heart' has arrived with a circus theme...not quite sure what relevance it has to the song...and she totally rips of Shakira's 'She Wolf' vid when she's writhing around in the golden cage...but it's still a complete tune :D

Robbie Williams ft. Gary Barlow - Shame

First of all, the single feels a little gimickey just in terms of the idea behind it. The fact that Robbie and Gary have overcome their rift didn't really mean that they HAD to release a single together to prove the fact but it's because of this that millions of housewives across the country will be getting their kids to show them how to download it.


Coming to the single itself, 'Shame' has a country-like sound to it, and it kind of reminds us of the theme to some kind of OAP's sitcom or countryside drama. The lyrics to the track are sentimental, referencing old rivalries and regrets, although come across as being clichéd and awkward at times and some of the rhymes used are far too predictable and could have been written by the lyricist of a bad boy band.


However, the track is still listenable and is fairly pleasant but just lacks that spark of genius that many now associate with Robbie. Not so much Gary...oh that solo career...It would seem almost written to be a sing-along track for those middle aged women who love to throw their oversized pants at Take That at any given moment.


Whilst the idea behind the single is nice, this just doesn't feel believable and many would, and possibly should, have expected more magic from the pair. I can't help but feeling that this is a bit of a letdown overall, especially for a track destined to feature on Robbie's second greatest hits CD.


5/10 - Ice.

UK Midweek Charts Roundup - Friday 1st Oct

Hello there chart fanatics :-D

So it’s Friday...and our last day of Midweek updates before the big chart happening on Sunday! And it looks as if there’s a few last minute changes...

Although Mr Tempah looks almost certain to cinch yet another #1 this weekend, it would seem that his bezzie Labrinth has been shunted into third place with ‘Let The Sun Shine,’ whilst Bruno Mars has hopped up to the #2 spot.

Adele and Taio Cruz are still sitting pretty in the #4 and #5 spots and it’s unlikely that this will change before Sunday. Katy Perry maintains her #6 position, whilst the hypnotising Iglesias/Scherzinger ballad ‘Heartbeat’ sticks at #8.

Now...the news everyone’s been waiting for...has a certain pert bottomed Miss K Minogue managed to scrape her way back into the top ten? No. In fact she’s done the opposite...and slipped down yet another place to the #12 spot. Oops...

Australian Boxoffice Chart Roundup - 1st Oct

This week the Australian Boxoffice sees ‘Despicable Me’ return to the top of its chart, taking $2.2million in ticket sales, around $500,000 more than new entry at #2 ‘Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.’

Last week’s #1, ‘The Last Airbender,’ slips down to #3 with around $200,000 less in ticket sales than ‘Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.’ Last week’s #3, ‘The Other Guys’ therefore gets pushed down into the #4 spot, whilst ‘Easy A’ is a non-mover at #5.

New entries ‘Diary Of A Wimpy Kid’ and ‘Death & Life Of Charlie St. Cloud’ take the #8 and #9 places respectively, whilst ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ falls from #6 to #10.
