UK Boxoffice Chart Roundup - 5th Oct

‘The Other Guys’ continues its reign at the top of the chart for a third week, taking £976k in ticket sales, keeping Ben Affleck’s ‘The Town’ off the summit with its takings of £890k. ‘Buried,’ starring Ryan Reynolds, is a new entry at #3, resulting in ‘Eat Pray Love’ falling two places to #4. Children’s horror ‘The Hole’ slips one place to round off the top 5.

Feel good movie ‘Made In Dagenham’ is a brand new entry at #6, taking 212k more than the new entry at #7, the re-release of cult classic ‘Back To The Future.’ Starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, the 1980s favourite has been shown in over 200 cinemas ahead of its Blu-ray release later this month.

Uk Midweek Charts Roundup - Tuesday 5th Oct

Another week and yet ANOTHER single on track for the #1 spot! This time it looks like a battle between Cee-Lo Green with ‘Fuck You’ vs Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow with ‘Shame’ to claim this week’s top spot. Currently Cee-Lo is ahead of the Take That duo, shifting around 40k copies, ahead of Williams/Barlow’s 27k.

The Tempah/Turner collaboration has slipped a couple of places to #3, ahead of Bruno Mars’ ‘Just The Way You Are’ at #4. A new entry at #5 is Sweedish House Mafia featuring chart regular Tinie Tempah with their collaboration ‘Miama 2 Ibiza,’ making it Tempah’s second position in the top 5.

Labrinth has dropped down to #6, ahead of Kings of Leon’s new entry ‘Radioactive’ which currently resides at #7. Last week’s chart heavyweights Taio Cruz and Adele fall to the #8 and #9 spots respectively whilst Katy Perry clings to the end of the top ten.

US Boxoffice Chart Roundup - Tuesday 5th Oct

‘The Social Network,’ which details the emergence of the ever popular ‘facebook’ website, has swooped in to take the top spot in the US boxoffice after its first week of release. With $23million in sales, it knocks last week’s #1 ‘Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps’ down to the #3 spot, just trailing behind animation ‘Legend Of The Guardians’ with $10.9million.

‘The Town’ is pushed down to #4, taking just $0.1million less than it’s usurper, whilst ‘Easy A’ closes the top 5 with $7million in ticket sales.

Elsewhere in the chart ‘Case 39’ is a new entry at #7 with $5.4million, just slipping ahead of fellow newbie ‘Let Me In’ which debuts with $5.3million at #8. Wow it’s a close cut thing this week.

Christian TV - When She Turns 18

Another brand spanking new artist today, (apologies for the huuuuge delay in posting...modern technology's not all it's cracked up to be...) in the form of Christian TV, who will be releasing his debut solo single 'When She Turns 18' from his forthcoming album 'Diary Of An 80's Baby.' However, Christian TV is definitely not a baby, and is a lot less innocent than his name may suggest...


Opening to a weird spoken segment, the track feels a little off course, and you may be thinking 'what the hell's this...we're not trusting icespicevice again...' BUT DON'T TURN IT OFF!!! Yes it sounds like the build up to a pretentious folk song, until a huge electro slab kicks in...which does still make the spoken part feel a little pretentious but we're not going to hold a grudge.


The track has a sick, forceful beat which perfectly compliment TV's rough and ready, rockish vocals and will have you reaching for that volume control and whacking it up full blast in no time at all. Being addressed to Christian's adolescent girlfriend's father, the lyrics show him to be a bit of a bad boy, although let's just hope he's only a couple of years older than her so it doesn't get weird and a bit icky...


The chorus is a stomping techno-pop riot, with a taunting hook which comes across as being a bit sexy due to TV's obvious lack of respect for rules and his general gloating/arrogant air. Whilst the lyrics are good, the last couplet of the chorus fail to impress. "When she turns 18, she'll choose between me and you, and guess who she's gonna pick..." leave the listener feeling frustrated as it doesn't conform to the consistent rhyming scheme set up throughout the rest of the track and definitely throws you off when you're singing along...not that we do that here...ahem...


Overall the single can be said to have a McFly-like quality to the sound although this track is definitely a lot more in your face, with Christian pulling no punches. For a teen-pop song, this is quirky, independent and full of vigour which makes for a major debut.
