Michael Bublé - Hollywood
Bublé is back in an upbeat, retro kind of way...that's right, say goodbye to the eternal ballads we always associate with the crooner. That in itself makes for a refreshing sound and automatically makes the track more enjoyable.
Despite its pretence of bubbly happiness, Bublé actually takes a rather critical swipe at modern pop culture, and people's aspirations to simply step into fame through the current variety of reality and talent shows. "...could you be a teenage Idol? Could you be a movie star?" questions the swing singer, making it sound like a simple choice to become famous, a sour commentary on the number of "famous-for-doing-nothing" stars.
Whilst the content is a little more heavy, the tune and beat lends itself to Bublé's famed "finger clicking" style of music which does show some consistency with his previous work and will sate the appetite of even his hardest core fans. He shows a little more excitement for once and shows us a different facet to his usual fare.
Don't be mistaken however, Michael maintains his unique laidback style, albeit in a more contemporary manner which is a nice change and shows his vocals actually can do more than the 'Lost' tracks we've become accustomed to. We have a feeling you'll want to be listening to this track very loudly and that you'll love the breakdown towards the end. Although Bublé is tackling the dangers of fame which could have become a little dry, we think that this could be one of his best releases and is a surprising gem.
PS...don't you just think the video is MADE for middle aged women to sing along to?

UK Midweek Charts Roundup - Friday 8th Oct
So, Cee-Lo Green still looks set to steal Robbie and Gary’s hopes of a joint #1 away this weekend, with his provocatively-titled-and-not-at-all-contrived-but-we-love-it-anyway single ‘Fuck You.’ R and G’s ‘Shame’ is still holding the #2 spot however, keeping Tinie and Turner’s ‘Written In The Stars’ down at #3.
Tinie has also maintained his second top 5 entry ‘Miami 2 Ibiza’ with Swedish House Mafia which is currently at #5, just below soppy ballad ‘Just The Way You Are.’
Kings Of Leon are holding steady at #7, above Adele, Taio Cruz and Katy Perry who form the rest of this week’s top 10.
Unfortunately for Miss Kylie Minogue, ‘Get Outta My Way’ has plummeted down to #29...and nobody’s entirely sure why...See you next week midweeks-a-holics :)

Looks like will.i.am is now so famous he doesn't even need to show his face. Wearing their trademark ultra modern fashions, they're looking fierce as usual...although Fergie's face looks bit weird...Kicking this fortnight's 'Who's On Top?' off to a good start though...

Joe McElderry - Ambitions
After a year packed with recording a new album, being beaten to the Xmas #1 by the 'Rage Against The Machine' facebook campaign and coming out as gay, reigning X Factor champion also has the business of releasing a new single to contend with. Now before you roll your eyes and mutter the words "power ballad," prepare to be very surprised...
First up, the powers that be have selected 'Ambitions,' a cover of Norwegian band Donkeyboy's #1 single, as McElderry's own second single and lead from his upcoming album 'Wide Awake.' This in itself is an eyebrow raising move, as most reality show popstars are often keen to release their own material so as to make their mark as an individual artist. In this case, however, Joe should be fine, as most of his fans will be unaware of the existence of the original version which will work in his favour.
As for the single itself, 'Ambitions' features an immensely heavy bassline, whilst the Geordie powerhouse belts out a perfect falsetto which counteracts the strong effect of the bass. Joe's voice really stands out as a result, with every note being crystal clear. As we get to the '...but don't you know...' style lines, McElderry's voice sinks lower and becomes as smooth as chocolate, demonstrating his immensely rich sound. The range of his vocals in this track clearly surpass those that we can remember from his X Factor days.
The beat pumps up towards the chorus which has a definite marching feel to it, which is re-enforced by Joe's dance routine, (Yes...DANCE ROUTINE!) in the accompanying video. 'Ambitions' has a powerful, upbeat hook, which is very different to what we were expecting from McElderry, who is barely recognisable in his re-invented form.
This is a real pop stormer, which is entertaining, confident and professional, and teamed with both a playful pop video and a guaranteed spot performing on The X Factor, which we're very interested to see, Joe should be collecting his next #1 any time soon...without any interference from Rage Against The Machine.

Who's On Top? - Best Cover - 21st Sept - 5th Oct
So, the fortnight is over and time is up for our 'Who's On Top?' magazine cover celebs! We've featured 13 stars this fortnight, from Lil' Kim, to The Wanted to President Obama.
BUT...there can only be one Best Cover...
So, in 3rd place we have selected...Ebony's 65th anniversary edition cover, which looks slick and fashionable and, of course, features 4 massive stars.
In 2nd place, we have selected Taylor Swift's 'Glamour' shoot, which was a total surprise and shows a different side to the typically reserved star...
And finally...taking our top spot this week is.........
NICKI MINAJ IN 'OUT' MAGAZINE!
Looking playful and surrounded by crazy costumes and vibrant colours, Nicki Minaj is a clear winner.
